We Made History!! 100+ Proclamations for Arab American Heritage Month
SOURCE: ARAB AMERICAN CIVIC COUNCIL
The Arab American community nationwide made history this April after more than 100 proclamations were issued to recognize April as Arab American Heritage Month. While this is the 4th year the Arab American Civic Council advocates locally to recognize the month, it was the first time this effort has been coordinated nationally.
Spearheaded by our friends at ArabAmerica.com, a National Advisory Committee was established nationwide that brought together Arab American community leaders and activists to request proclamations in the various states and cities where Arab American communities are active. Arab American Civic Council Executive Director Rashad Al-Dabbagh served as a member of the committee.
Locally, Arab American Heritage Month proclamations were issued by the Anaheim Union High School District, California State Senate, Fullerton City Council, Anaheim City Council, Orange County Board of Supervisors, and Garden Grove City Council.
According to Arab America, proclamations were received from the following states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
