The first cover of Vogue Arabia was presented today and it features famous Arab American model, Gigi Hadid. Launched in October of 2016, the new magazine chose the half-Palestinian model to kick-off its first ever printed edition.
Hadid is on two covers of the magazine, one cover in English, the other in Arabic. The magazine is entitled “reorienting perceptions” and aims to begin a discussion about ideas on femininity in the Arab world. On the covers, Hadid wears a jeweled covering over half of her face in sleek, black-and-white photos.
In an Instagram post sharing her two covers, Hadid said, “Being half-Palestinian, it means the world to me to be on the first-ever cover(s) of @voguearabia, and I hope that this magazine will show another layer of the fashion industry’s desire to continue to accept, celebrate, and incorporate all people & customs and make everyone feel like they have fashion images and moments they can relate to… & learn and grow in doing so.”
Many Arab women, who hope to give a voice to the designers, models, stylists, and even makeup video bloggers of the Arab world, operate Vogue Arabia. Since its launch only five months ago, the magazine has gained significant attention from readers around the world.
