The Arab-American Civil Rights League applauds Michigan Congresswoman for supporting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action
DEARBORN, MI —Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) announced her support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (“JCPOA”), the comprehensive agreement addressing Iran’s covert nuclear program. After a careful revieacts, and hearing input from her constituents, the Congresswoman announced that she will vote in favor of the JCPOA when it comes before the Congress this September.Taking a pragmatic approach to the JCPOA, Congresswoman Dingell ted that the JCPOA is the only realistic option to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear capability within the next few months, and that undermining President Obama’s multilateral approach to stopping Iran will have no effect on eliminating Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Furthermore, the Congresswoman stated that the JCPOA fulfills key objectives including promoting world peace, and supporting the U.S.’ allies and partners.
The ACRL thanks Congresswoman Dingell for her leadership in addressing this most-difficult issue, and encourages her to continue outreach and engagement efforts within the Arab-American community. ACRL Chairman Nabih Ayad praised the Congresswoman’s approach, noting that she spared no effort in reaching out to all parties who had something to say. “This is a topic of grave concern within the Arab-American community, and the Congresswoman’s balanced approach in deciding whether to support or oppose the JCPOA demonstrates her appreciation for the gravity of the situation,” said Chairman Ayad. “Congresswoman Dingell truly took the time to listen to all of her constituents, research the issues, and reach a fair and reasoned decision. We at the ACRL hope that the level of collaboration and dialogue that we are seeing at the individual and community level can now be emulated by the parties to the JCPOA at the international level.
