posted on: Jun 15, 2015

Live music and Middle Eastern food will be in abundance at the 12th annual St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church hafli.
The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. June 20 at the church hall, 725 Pearson St.
Tickets are $25, and admission includes food and entertainment by an Arabic band.
The church turns 89 this year, having been founded in 1926 by a community of Lebanese immigrants on New Castle’s South Side. The worshippers bought their first building in 1926 on Howard Way, then built their present structure at 2 W. Reynolds St. in 1935.
The church hall was erected in 1967.
The parish serves more than 100 families with daily and weekend services under the leadership of Father Claude Franklin.
