South Africa reiterates support for Palestinian cause
South African Representative to the State of Palestine, Professor M W Makalima, yesterday reiterated his country’s support for the Palestinian people and their cause, Quds Press reported.
Makalima paid a visit to the head office of the Palestinian parliament in Gaza City and met parliament deputy speaker Ahmed Bahar and a number of other parliamentarians to mark the end of his mission.
The official congratulated Parliament Speaker Aziz Dweik, who was released from an Israeli jail last week. Adding that he said he was sad to be leaving the Gaza Strip.
He stressed the continuous support of his country for the Palestinians, noting that his government encourages the national reconciliation efforts.
Makalima said he hoped to see all the Palestinian factions unite against the “Israeli occupation and its racist policies.” He recalled the famous saying of the late SA leader Nelson Mandela: “We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.”
Meanwhile, Bahar stressed on the strategic relations between South Africa and Palestine, hailing the pro-Palestine stance of the South African president.
He went on to thank SA for its longstanding support for the Palestinians and their cause, hailing Mandela’s efforts, who believed in self-determination for all nations.
