Long before the Women’s March on Washington, Linda Sarsour was advocating for her community.

A true Brooklynite, she’s perfected the art of telling it like it is. Growing up as an NYC public school student she often had to choose between going to school and celebrating her faith. After 9/11 her community became the target of police sweeps. She began volunteering at the Arab American Association of NY. Fifteen years later, when Muslim high holidays fell on school exam days, she knew she needed to step in again. She formed a coalition of people who rallied for Muslim holidays to be recognized by the public schools system and won.
