By Noura Abou Hamze / Arab America Contributing Writer
Despite struggling with a dire economic crisis and frequent power cuts, Lebanon launches its first ever made electric car. The car is red and is named “ Quds Rise” using the Arabic name of Jerusalem. Furthermore, this project is made by the Lebanese born- Palestinian business man Jihad Mohammed. Additionally, Jihad Mohammed is the founder and CEO of EV Electra. Also, Quds Rise is the first automobile to be manufactured locally from start to finish. At the front of the car there is a golden logo of the Dime. The Dime represents the shrine of Al Aqsa Mosque , Islam’s third holiest site. Therefore, it will be priced at $30,000.
Mohammed set up his company almost four years ago , while employing around 300 engineers from Lebanon and Palestine. Moreover, his main goal is to compete internationally for hybrid and electric automobile cars.
Ev Electra is planning to start the production of 10,000 electric cars this year. However, The Association of Automobile Importers in Lebanon, said that car dealers sold only 62 new cars in the country in the 1st two months of 2021. Therefore, this is almost 97 percent less than the units sold in the same period a year before. However, Mohammed’s company, EV Electra, is determined to sell all its vehicles. Also , it will allow buyers to pay for half the price in dollars and the rest in Lebanese pounds, at an exchange rate better than the black market. It can also be paid over five years with no interest.
Car Description and Features
