Obama at 150th Anniversary of 13th Amendment, “We betray the efforts of the past if we fail to push back against bigotry in all its forms”
President Barack Obama delivered a speech at the U.S. Capitol today to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment and the abolishment of slavery.
In what was a timely moment during his speech, he said that the scars of the our nation’s original sin are still with us today. He went on to say to a thundering applause, “We betray the efforts of the past. if we fail to push back against bigotry in all its forms”
The event was attended by members of the House and Senate, Congressional leadership and the Congressional Black Caucus.
