It’s that time again: New York Fashion Week has returned to the city for more than a week of runway shows, presentations and beyond.

We review the spring/summer collections, from your favorite iconic designers to those making their NYFW debuts.

ODAY SHAKAR

It was a welcome return for Oday Shakar to New York Fashion Week, who on Friday morning returned to New York Fashion Week after a two-year hiatus. Shakar’s regal collection, meant to reflect his Arab-American heritage by fusing Western and Middle Eastern influences, was v-e-r-y good. Silos ran the gamut from ultra bodycon (a feather light micro suede series may require a shoehorn to squeeze into) to billowy (glam kaftans, flowing chiffon and organza pleated gowns). Lovely prints conjured ornate mosque windows, and details included patterned metallic trim. Shakar used color judiciously — lots of white and pale blush here, but when he went for it, he went big, as in the case of a vivid lemony gown and an ethereal number in teal. We’d hardly be surprised to see some starlet wearing Shakar’s work on a red carpet. And for the record, top models don’t walk in just any show. In this one, Imaan Hammam, the Egyptian-Moroccan model who has graced shows such as Versace, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren, opened and closed. She looked like a goddess in Shakar’s finery.
