‘No Other Land’ Wins Oscar for Best Documentary
The documentary No Other Land, a collaboration between Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers, won the Best Documentary Feature award tonight at the 97th Annual Academy Awards.
The film chronicles the forced displacement of Palestinians in Masafer Yatta, a region in the occupied West Bank, from 2019 to 2023. During their acceptance speech, co-directors Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham made a powerful appeal, stating, “There is no land for us but this one. No other land.” They urged the world to recognize the ongoing injustice and ethnic cleansing faced by Palestinians, emphasizing that their film is not just a story but a cry for urgent action.
Adra, a Palestinian journalist, and Abraham, an Israeli activist, spoke of the painful reality of occupation, with Abraham stating, “No one should have to document their own people’s oppression, yet here we are.” The film’s raw, unfiltered storytelling has resonated globally, despite distribution challenges in the U.S. It stands as a testament to resilience and resistance, demanding international attention on the Palestinian struggle.
