Members of the New England Arab American Organization spent the week before Ramadan travelling across Southern Maine delivering essential food supplies to new Mainers in need who may be unable to leave their homes.

Donations of at least 150 boxes of food came in from local organizations and businesses like Maine Initiatives, the Maine Community Foundation, and discounted goods from the Makkah Market in Portland.

“We’re trying to help out, anything to help out,” said Zoe Sahloul, of the New England Arab American Organization. “I think by everyone standing up together, we can feel what a great community and state Maine is.”

Organizers said the food they delivered is enough to feed almost 600 people for the next 2-3 weeks. Future donations are planned for the Augusta area.
