National Students for a Democratic Society supports Rasmea Odeh

posted on: Oct 17, 2015

Students for a Democratic Society demands justice for Rasmea Odeh, who is fighting back against the political repression aimed at her for her work supporting women, immigrants and Palestine. The attack on Rasmea is part of an ongoing campaign by the U.S. government of political repression and criminalization of Muslims and Arab Americans, especially Palestinian Americans, at home and in U.S. wars abroad.

Rasmea Odeh is a Palestinian activist who has dedicated her life to building the Palestinian solidarity movement in the United States. In Palestine, she was captured by the Israeli Defense Forces and physically and sexually tortured, which resulted in complications with her immigration process into the United States. Now, even as a naturalized U.S. citizen, the federal government aims to deport her in order to weaken the anti-war movement and the movement for the self-determination of Palestine, of which she has become an important icon.

Students for a Democratic Society demands “Justice for Rasmea!” and we will be rallying all around the country on the date of her appeal, October 14th. We demand that her conviction be overturned. We demand that all repression of Muslims and Arab Americans and anti-war activists come to an end. We call for Rasmea Odeh to go free, so that she can resume her important work organizing for an end to the occupation of Palestine.
