On World Humanitarian Day on August 19, Arab Idol winner Mohammed Assaf spoke at the United Nations with Palestinian American actress and Quantico star, Yasmine Al Massri. At WHD, the international singer spoke about the rights of Palestinians and Palestinian youth who are “eager to exercize their rights and achieve their dreams.” Yasmine, who grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, translated for Assaf, providing a united front to the issues faced by children everywhere.
The Palestinian duo urged the international community to bring an end to the Syrian War and “all conflict affecting children everywhere.” They called on internernational humanitarian agencies to provide the physical and financial support to the people who have been forced to flee their homes and find solutions to the many crises facing the world.
After his speech, Mohammed Assaf performed a ballad that was met with roaring applause and cheers.
WHD is celebrated every year on August 19 to show appreciation to humanitarian aid workers who risk their lives to provide support for people in conflict areas. The annual celebration is a reminder to everyone that love and care for vulnerable communities is a more powerful force than those trying to tear countries apart.
