Mohammad Assaf speaks out on Syrian refugees
The global community needs to come together and stand up for Syrian refugees, Mohammad Assaf said.
“We should take them in and protect them. These are people escaping death and wars,” said the Arab Idol star, ahead of the premiere of The Idol, a film based on his inspiring journey from Palestine to being crowned winner on the show.
“I am not a politician and people of each country are better aware of their own problems, and I am talking with the logic of any human being.”
Assaf is also an ambassador for peace for The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The photo of the little Kurdish Syrian toddler, Aylan Kurdi, washed ashore on Turkey shocked the world, including Assaf.
“I swear to God, I have not seen something like that scene. Poor child, he and his family have escaped death to face death.”
The picture was posted on Assaf’s facebook page with a comment cursing wars.
