Milwaukee Palestine Solidarity Coalition hosts Rasmea solidarity event

posted on: Jun 9, 2015

Milwaukee, WI – A coalition of Palestine Solidarity groups in the Milwaukee area will host an event in solidarity with Palestinian hero Rasmea Odeh. The live stream with Odeh’s lawyer, Michael Deutsch, will take place at 6:00 p.m., June 11 at the People’s Books Co-op, located at 804 E. Center Street in Milwaukee.

Last year, People’s Books Co-op joined the international movement to boycott, divest and sanction Israel over their illegal occupation of Palestine and Israeli crimes against Palestinians. One of those crimes was the decade-long imprisonment and torture of a young Palestinian refugee organizer named Rasmea Odeh.

Rasmea Odeh was one of the first women to openly expose and denounce Israel’s use of sexual torture after her own experiences in Israeli detention. She continues to inspire Palestinian movements around the world, from Gaza and the West Bank, to Chicago, where she has spent years organizing immigrant women through the Arab American Action Network.

In response to Odeh’s heroism and the growing Palestine solidarity movement, she is now being targeted by pro-Israel U.S. government prosecutors. On June 11, her attorney will give her supporters an update on her legal battle, and the upcoming appeal hearing in Cincinnati.
