Arab Fashion Council to develop sector by opening office in Saudi Arabia and hosting first Arab Fashion Week in Riyadh in March

The MENA region’s fashion industry could create jobs for as many as 20 million women, according to the Arab Fashion Council.

The organisation, which represents the fashion sector of 22 Arab countries, is aiming to enhance the industry’s infrastructure across the region.

The founder and CEO of the Arab Fashion Council, Jacob Abrian, said every country can take advantage of its own expertise. North Africa’s raw materials and textiles can build on the manufacturing industry, while the Levant’s factories will be used for finishing and assembling products.

Retail will then be concentrated in cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which attract worldwide shoppers.

“By doing this, we estimate having 20 million women as part of the system from all over the Arab world. This is an opportunity to create a completely new economy,” said Abrian.

Princess Noura Bint Faisal Al-Saud, honorary president of the Arab Fashion Council, announced recently that Saudi Arabia would host its first Arab Fashion Week in Riyadh in March.

The statement came shortly after she revealed plans to open a regional office in the Kingdom.

“Saudi Arabia’s artistic community has been growing in size and in confidence for a number of years and the General Entertainment Authority believes that such an event will allow a proper platform to showcase their fashion and arts talents as the vehicle for a comprehensive range of entertainment options in Saudi Arabia,” she said.
