If you’ve got Moroccan fare on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. Located at 517 Eighth St. SE in Capitol Hill, the newcomer is called Mekki.

The restaurant offers such dishes as lamb, chicken and fish tagine, as well as shrimp, vegetable and cheese savory pastries. Couscous, braised eggplant and fried branzino are also available, as well as wine, beer and cocktails.

With a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, Mekki has already made a good impression.

Miranda P., who was among the first Yelpers to review the restaurant on Dec. 24, wrote, ‘We started off with the cheese briwate, which were like little egg rolls made of phyllo dough and filled with cream cheese. It was surprisingly crispy, light and airy, yet creamy and gooey at the same time. We ordered lamb tagine as the our main course. It was succulent and fall-off-the-bone. I appreciated that they roasted the potatoes before adding them to tagine.’

Yelper Jacqulyn T. added, “The food was delicious. For my chicken and lamb lovers, please make sure to try the chicken haddis and lamb a la mounia.”

Head on over to check it out: Mekki is open from 5-11 p.m. on Sunday-Thursday, and 5 p.m.-midnight on Friday and Saturday.
