Arab designers were seen all over the Red Carpet and after parties again at this year’s Academy Awards. More than ever, Arab designers, most of whom are from Lebanon, are designing glamorous gowns for Hollywood’s elite. The number of Arab designers gives the Arab American community much to be excited about, as Arabic names become more and more desirable and common in the celebrity world.

Oscar-nominated director and screenwriter Ava DuVernay sent a powerful political message by showing solidarity with Arabs and Muslims in a tweet before the Oscars. She wore a dress by designer Mohammed Ashi, who is from Saudi Arabia, and launched Ashi Studio in Beirut, Lebanon in 2007, according to the brand’s website.
A small sign of solidarity. I chose to wear a gown by a designer from a majority Muslim country. Thanks to @AshiStudio of Lebanon. #Oscars pic.twitter.com/CbEkK7rCpG
