Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports Miri Regev walked the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival this week wearing a dress decorated with Jerusalem’s cityscape.
According to Israeli site Ynet News, Regev wore the dress “to mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War.”

Of course, Palestinians and many other Arabs were less than impressed. Palestinians and Israelis both claim Jerusalem as their capital, making the city a particular issue of tension.
Some on social media were quick to modify Regev’s dress, bringing reality back into focus.
Maybe her dress would have been better featuring the separation wall
Or maybe bombs falling on Gaza?
Or a Palestinian woman crying for her dead relatives and bombed out home?
The memes started trending

As the fate of Jerusalem remains a heated issue between Israelis and Palestinians, U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested his country will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s official capital very soon.
Trump is traveling to the Middle East this weekend to meet with Arab and Muslim leaders in Saudi Arabia. Reports have suggested that the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis will be a major issue on the agenda. Some sources have suggested Gulf countries are ready to normalize relations with Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes certain agreements.
After the summit in Saudi Arabia, Trump will travel to meet with Netanyahu in Israel.
