In the Spirit of Thanksgiving, a Syrian Refugee Asks for a Hug
Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks for all the gifts we have been blessed with throughout our lives. Most importantly, it is a time when we help those who are in need.
With the Syrian refugee crisis currently taking place throughout the world and in the U.S., Arab America decided to see how Americans at the Union Station in Washington DC would react to a simple message hand written on a sign from a Syrian refugee:
“I am a Muslim Syrian Refugee, not a terrorist.
I am thankful to be in America on this Thanksgiving.
If you believe in me, give me a hug.”
The reaction was unexpected, but not surprising. After all, we have always been a nation that prides itself in its tolerance and acceptance of immigrants.
