In hair-raising move, Texas company tells Donald Trump, 'You're fired!'
NBC’s not the only one to fire Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump after the billionaire businessman made inflammatory remarks about Mexican immigrants.
On Monday, Houston-based Farouk Systems, Inc. withdrew its sponsorship of the Miss USA, Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA pageants and said it will have no further involvement in Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice show, all of which were broadcast on NBC. The company supplied hair products for the shows, but (as far as we know) never had anything to do with Trump’s unusual hair (piece).
“Farouk Systems does not agree with or endorse the statements recently made by Donald Trump about immigrants,” CEO Basim Shami said in a statement. “Our company is multicultural, with people of Latin American descent making up a large percentage of our employees and loyal customers. As a company proudly founded on the concept of coming to the U.S.A. in pursuit of the American Dream, Mr. Trump’s comments do not and will never reflect our company’s philosophy or practices.”
Farouk Systems, which bills itself as “a Houston-based company of hairdressers for hairdressers,” manufactures high-quality professional hair care products, including popular brands CHI and BioSilk. Founded in 1986 by Houstonian Farouk Shami, it distributes its products throughout the United States and to over 120 countries worldwide.
NBC said in a statement Monday that it was ending its business relationship with Trump after he referred to immigrants as “rapists” and “murderers” when he announced his bid for presidency on June 16. The network will not air the pageants or The Apprentice, but it will continue to be involved with Celebrity Apprentice without Trump.
Univision previously announced it would no longer air Trump’s pageants after his remarks.
