How Arab Culture Inspired American Slot Developers

posted on: Sep 6, 2020

Slot developers are known for taking inspiration for their games from a wide variety of sources. Right now, there is a big trend towards creating games based on TV shows and movies, but there are only a certain number of popular properties like these to go around.

Instead, some studios have used Arabian culture as the inspiration for their games. Indeed, slots inspired by Arabian culture are some of the most popular to be played at online casinos.

Here is how Arabian culture stepped up to play such a key role in slot game development.

Arabian culture’s influence spreads far and wide

The Arab world has long provided inspiration and its influence can be seen across the globe. Almost everything that you could possibly think of has its roots in the Arab world, even if this goes uncredited a lot more often than not.

Architecture and interior design around the planet is inspired by Arabian culture a lot of the time, even if this is not always obvious right on the surface. Arabic architectural design is the inspiration for buildings such as the iconic Taj Mahal in India and the Moorish Alhambra Palace in Spain. This is rarely stated outright, however.

Even in modern culture – like in films and TV – the Arab world continues to have a lot of influence. Take the hit HBO series Game of Thrones as an example. The setting of the phenomenally popular series, Dorne, is widely assumed to be inspired by Arabian culture.

Star Wars is obviously another example where the influence of the Arab world is clear in some of its locations, while flecks of this culture can also be seen in everything from Harry Potter, The Matrix and Lord of the Rings.

Music is yet another department where Arabian culture continues to be seen. The Black Eyed Peas, MIA, the Chemical Brothers and the Pussycat Dolls have all used an Arab flavour in their songs, while Arab instruments such as the oud and the ney take pride of place on the track Beautiful Liar, which was a hit for Beyonce and Shakira when it came out back in 2007.

It seems natural, therefore, that slot games would be inspired by Arabian culture as well.

Slot games and video games with an Arab influence

Developers of video games and online slots have followed suit in using an Arabian influence as their inspiration for a raft of titles that have become popular with the public.

The Assassin’s Creed video game series, which is among the most popular of its kind, has a clear Arab influence and it went on to sell many millions of copies, as well as inspiring a film. Similarly, the Prince of Persia game series had a clear influence from Arabian culture as well.

Countless online slots have used the same kind of inspiration from the Arab world. As an example, the Quickspin slot development studio created a slot game inspired by the famous 1001 Tales of the Arabian Nights that turned out to be a huge hit. The firm’s Genie’s Touch game offers players 20 ways to win with the magic lamp symbol key to securing the biggest wins.

New games are being launched all the time that have a similar Arabian slant to them. Earlier in the year, Booming Games announced the launch of Arabian Spins. This slot game, which has been released at a lot of online casinos, has a 10 paylines across a 3×3 grid of reels.

“It’s time to dust off the old magic carpet, as Booming Games goes classic with the release of Arabian Spins,” said the director of product of Booming Games, Shane Cotter.

Booming Games is by far from the only slot game developer to have turned to the Arab world. For example, the Book of Ra is still one of the most popular games to play at online casinos, with this slot in turn inspiring the release of Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead. The Arabian Dream slot is another in a long line of examples of slots to be inspired by the Arab world.

What is for sure is that with Arabian-themed slot games as popular as ever, developers will continue to create more and more online slots of this kind to satisfy their audience.
