Dearborn, Mich. (Sept. 14, 2015) – Get your tickets now for musical journeys to Egypt, Ethiopia, Armenia and the mystical realm where Tropicalia and experimental music intersect! The Arab American National Museum’s Global Fridays 2015 Fall Season – a celebration of musical traditions from around the world – offers engaging musical excursions right here in southeast Michigan.

The 2015 Fall Season opens this Friday, Sept. 18, with a 6 p.m. artist talk and 8 p.m. performance by São Paulo Underground feat. Rob Mazurek. This Tropicalia-influenced experimental quartet is led by Chicago-based cornetist Mazurek, who first gained notice with such groups as Isotope 217 and Tortoise.

The musical journey continues at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, with Krar Collective (Ethiopian roots/funk). This trio of Ethiopian musicians living in London merge their traditional music with modern sounds.

The centennial of the Armenian Genocide is marked at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, as noted Armenian music masters Ara Topouzian (kanun) and Mal Barsamian (oud), supported by percussionist Mike Shimmin, present traditional village music in memory of the 1.5 million lives lost.

The 2015 Fall season closes on Friday, Dec. 4, with a 6 p.m. artist talk and 8 p.m. performance by the Anna Masry Band, a Washington, D.C.-based ensemble of musicians who present everything from Um Kulthum classics to Nubian folk songs. It’s their first-ever southeast Michigan appearance.

Since the Arab American National Museum (AANM) opened on May 5, 2005, its Global Fridays multicultural performance series – a sister series to the AANM’s annual summer Concert of Colors world music festival in Midtown Detroit – has offered high-quality musical and spoken-word presentations for fans of traditional and world music and those with adventurous cultural tastes.

Enhancing the Global Fridays experience are intimate performance setting, up-close-and-personal pre-concert artist talks (on specified dates) and the after-show artist “meet and greets” and CD signings. All Global Fridays concerts and artist talks take place in The Annex, a new 4,700- sq.-ft. expansion adjacent to the AANM, equipped with the latest in sound and projection systems.

Global Fridays tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for AANM Members. Tickets are available in advance online at http://www.arabamericanmuseum.org/gf_fall_season-events  and at the door. Free, lighted parking is available in the municipal lot north of the Museum.
