Former Iraqi American USAID Advisor Pens Baghdad Stories: An Iraqi-American Memoir
NEW YORK, Aug. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ Nadia Al Sultani, an international development professional and former USAID advisor to Iraq, has announced the release of her book “Baghdad Stories: An Iraqi-American Memoir.” The book details her experiences in Iraq from 2002 through today. Al Sultani, an Iraqi-American, holds an MA in International Economics and spent several years working in international banking on Wall Street before beginning her career in public service.
The book chronicles three separate trips to Iraq by Al Sultani, at different points in her life and Iraq’s history. The journey begins with Al Sultani’s first visit back ‘home’ to Iraq from New York post 9/11, continues with her professional efforts working with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the famous “Green Zone” to help rebuild Iraq in the aftermath of the second Gulf War, and culminates with her most recent visit in the midst of personal tragedy, instability and violence of 2014.
Ms. Al Sultani writes a gripping tale about the challenges Iraq is facing and gives a real in-depth view of how Iraqis have lived and fared through these troubled times. “Baghdad Stories tells of the strength and resilience of the Iraqi people and answers some very real questions that many Americans are still asking” said the author. This compelling story chronicles her travels between cities and times and serves as a personal account of Iraq’s transformation from a country that contained the idyllic Baghdad of her earliest memories to a nation in a state of peril. Set against the tumultuous backdrop of war and survival, this story is about family, identity and belonging.
Baghdad Stories is available now on Amazon as a Kindle e-book: http://amzn.com/B00VQPC1DW for $9.99 and will be available in paperback in September of this year. Learn more about Nadia on her website at
