Laurie Machalany’s three children grew up attending the Lebanese Festival at Saint Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church.

“It’s very much a part of my family,” she said. “I even met my husband through the festival. My husband and brother started the festival 28 years ago. They were the creators of it, and that’s how I got to know him.”

The Lebanese Festival, also known as a Mahrajan, will be from 6 to 10 p.m. May 29, noon to 11 p.m. May 30 and noon to 10 p.m. May 31 on the church grounds, 526 Easton Ave. It is an outdoor gathering of “families, friends and neighbors for authentic Middle Eastern food, music, dance and culture.”

“It’s going to be a wonderful day, and we hope a lot of people come, both who are familiar with Lebanese culture and food and those who would like to know more,” said Machalany, the publicity chair of the festival.

The festival will feature traditional Lebanese foods, like falafel, shawarma, hummus, shish kabob, spinach pies, tabouhli, stuffed grape leaves and much more. There will be a large assortment of Middle Eastern desserts, such as baklawa, mamool, atayif, nammoora and ghraybeh.
