“THEEB is a jewel!” – E. Nina Rothe, Huffington Post ”

A classic adventure film of the best kind, and one that’s rarely seen these days!” – Jay Weissberg, Variety

October 6, 2015 (New York, NY) Film Movement is proud to announce the New York release of THEEB, the award winning film by Naji Abu Nowar and Jordan’s official submission for the 88th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film. THEEB is scheduled to open exclusively in New York at Lincoln Plaza Cinema starting on November 6th.

Abu Nowar’s film, which was also selected for New Directors/New Films, is a quietly gripping adventure tale that follows Theeb, a young boy who sets off on a dangerous journey across the desert at the height of World War I in1916. While war rages in the Ottoman Empire, Hussein raises his younger brother Theeb (“Wolf”) in a traditional Bedouin community that is isolated by the vast, unforgiving desert. The brothers’ quiet existence is suddenly interrupted when a British Army officer and his guide ask Hussein to escort them on a treacherous journey. The young, mischievous Theeb secretly chases after the travelers, but they soon find themselves trapped amidst threatening terrain riddled with mercenaries, revolutionaries, and outcast raiders, forcing Theeb to live up to the name given to him by his father.

With his directorial debut THEEB, Naji Abu Nowar impressed international audiences and brought a taste of Jordanian cinema to the world. Featured in film festivals from over 20 countries, THEEB has won numerous awards, including Best Director at Venice Film Festival’s Orizzonti (New Horizons) competition; the Jury Prize for Best Cinematography and Artistic Direction at the Cairo Film Festival; Best Screenplay at the Miami Film Festival; Best Film from the from the Arab World and the FIRPRESCI prize for best Narrative Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

According to Screen Daily, THEEB is “a beautifully simple and stunningly elegant film – that can be seen as something of a companion piece to LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.” It is “a wonderfully intimate human story…that grabs a hold of you and doesn’t let go” adds The Huffington Post.

THEEB will open at the Lincoln Plaza Cinema, 1886 Broadway, New York, NY 10023, on November 6. The trailer can be seen at Film Movement’s official YouTube page, here.
