Join us on Wednesday, February 28, from 7-10 pm for an evening of art, poetry, and food at BARZAKH CAFE in Brooklyn, NY as we raise money for Gazan youth in Palestine.
We will be featuring voices and sounds from Palestine, Mali, New York City, and Atlanta that will weave together a tapestry of resistance, love, and solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to freedom, their right to return, and their right to resist. Through art and discussion we’ll connect the dots between struggles against oppression from #FreePalestine to #StopCopCity.
We’ll hear from Yacouba Sissoko, master kora player, & sali, both Malian vocalists who will be performing as a duo, as well as Jordan W. Carter hailing from Atlanta, GA who will be performing with Jake Washburn on guitar/keys, and Darrell Ward on drums. There will be poetry readings from Palestinian poets Rhumz and Heba, and your host Priya Florence will guide you through the night.
A delicious spread of North African dishes will be included in the ticket price, and all funds raised will be redistributed to the following:
- Half of the funds will be sent directly to a displaced family of 14 in Rafah who have lost their homes and have experienced 137 days of relentless bombing.
- The other half will be sent to Playgrounds for Palestine, a project that is specifically supporting children in Palestine through the creation of playgrounds. They have built 55 playgrounds in Palestine to date, and we are hoping to support the creation of more.
