“This year the Arab Resource & Organizing Center is celebrating our 15-year anniversary of building intergenerational power in the Arab and Muslim community.
From providing free immigration services, to mobilizing folks to take the streets, AROC focuses on organizing our working class, activist, and migrant communities. Our organization is committed to the dignity and liberation of our peoples, recognizing the importance of building solidarity across all movements. Since 2007, we’ve had huge successes in ending Urban Shield, Blocking the Boat, providing Arabic in our schools, and defending our communities. This work could not have been accomplished without all our allies, members, and of course, the communities we serve.
We are delighted to invite you to Takkaful: 15 Years of AROC Celebration Event, on a beautiful rooftop overlooking Lake Meritt in downtown Oakland, on indigenous ancestral Lisjan Ohlone territory. In Arabic, Takkaful تكافل means “sharing the burdens” of support and mutual aid as a community. In other words, we got us. This is a huge milestone for our organization and we look forward to building together another 15 years with our people in the spirit of empowerment and joyful burden sharing. Expect an incredible evening of celebration, light food, and music. Featuring special performances from our AYO youth, with headliners Omar Offendum in collaboration with local oud player Clarissa Bitar weaving storytelling, hip hop, and song to honor the proud history and legacy of the Arab community in the U.S. and beyond…
Ticket information will be on sale soon, so save the date and RSVP here to receive updates about the event.”
