CHICAGO, IL
Bas! It’s HAFLA time. The hotties at Salon Kawakib and Dorothy are teaming up to bring you a dance party centering SWANA/MENA music! Haflas have made headlines in NYC and LA, now it’s time for Chicago to have her own shine.
Detroit baddie Tammy Lakkis (@tammylakkis) and Chicago’s own Rumr (@_1.312_rumr__) will spin, so wear your dancing shoes, cuties.
Doors at 6pm and DJs play from 7-10pm! Entry is a sliding scale option of $15-25 – proceeds are split between our performers and our lounge!
Dorothy is 21+ and requires a physical ID for entry. Dorothy is also ADA accessible with elevator access on Campbell Avenue. If you’re a guest who requires elevator access, reach out ahead of the event, stop by Split-Rail when you arrive or talk to our security person upon arrival for assistance.
PLEASE NOTE: Refund requests will only be accepted until noon the day of the event.
ABOUT THE DJS
rumr is a DJ, producer, and self-described criminal queer emerging in Chicago’s underground rave scene. She plays a variety of genres including house, techno, and industrial music, mixing along the dystopian & futuristic undercurrents that connect club music to its origins in the Midwest where she is from. As a transsexual woman born to both Lebanese and Iranian families, she is thrilled to make her club debut in the company of her beloved queer SWANA community. This Hafla mix will highlight music from all over the region, particularly Mazzika & Slam! classics, as well as modern techno tracks by trailblazing producers of SWANA descent.
With a voice described by NPR as “sheepish soul” and a bold electronic production style, Tammy Lakkis is no stranger to holding nuance. Raised between Michigan and Ontario, the artist has carved a unique pathway for herself since the launch of her debut EP Notice, gaining traction in the underground dance scene for her all-hardware live sets of genre-defying beats. With the titular single securing a spot on NPR’s “100 Best Songs of 2021” list, Notice–released through Shigeto’s Portage Garage Sounds label–is currently on its third vinyl pressing. She maintains a presence in Detroit hosting two DJ residencies and playing regularly around the city and beyond. Her eclectic DJ sets fluctuate between funky flirty house and hard club bangers, often garnished with Arabic music and melodies.
