In Conversation: Humanity in Gaza Revisited
“What is the physical and mental health of the human beings trapped in Gaza?” Our panelists agreed, at the December 2023 Voices From the Holy Land Online Film Salon, that healing from this humanitarian catastrophe first required a ceasefire and physical safety. Nearly seven months into the war, there is no ceasefire and no safety anywhere in Gaza. How can healing ever begin? What can people do now to end the trauma and support the process of recovery for survivors?
At our July Salon, guest conversation will center on two short documentaries: Australian Doctor Reveals Experience Inside Gaza and Gaza’s War through a Child’s Eye, as well as an extended excerpt from our December 1023 Salon.
Watch the films for free at your convenience, then join us live, “In Conversation: Humanity in Gaza Revisited,” on Sunday July 21, at 3:00pm ET.

There will be three discussants speaking at this Zoom event:
Walaa Sabah is the director of operations at We Are Not Numbers (WANN), a youth-led Palestinian nonprofit project that mentors young writers, primarily from Gaza, and enables them to share their stories with the world. She previously held the position of community outreach and partnership officer. In 2022, Walaa won the UK’s prestigious Chevening scholarship and earned a first-class MSC degree in business with operations management from Warwick Business School. Walaa works as a freelance journalist. You can read her articles at the MEE, EI, Mondoweiss, and the New Arab.
Alice Rothchild is the author of Broken Promises, Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma and Resilience and Condition Critical: Life and Death in Israel/Palestine. She contributed to Reclaiming Judaism from Zionism: Stories of Personal Transformation; directed a documentary film, Voices Across the Divide; and is active in Jewish Voice for Peace and We are Not Numbers. Her Palestine-focused middle grade novel, Old Enough to Know, and her Palestine- focused young adult novel, Finding Melody Sullivan, were published in 2023. Alice practiced ob-gyn and served as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Harvard Medical School, for almost 40 years.
Catherine Baker is an author and freelance writer who serves as senior editor for We Are Not Numbers. She also is a member of the advisory board for the Palestine Poster Project Archives, an online repository of more than 19,500 posters related to Palestine. She is a member of the running group Iqraa (Arabic for “read”), which raises funds for college scholarships awarded to Palestinians attending college or university in the West Bank and Gaza, and is a member of the steering committee for Voices from the Holy Land.
