AL NADWA FREETHINKING SOCIETY, in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace-Detroit (JVP-D), Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), and Peace Action of Michigan proudly invite you to three opportunities to hear presentations by Dr. Ilan Pappé. Each presentation will be unique. Book Beat will be at all three events with Dr. Pappé’s books.

In support of the Palestinian struggle for freedom in the face of the atrocities and genocide being committed in Gaza, we have invited one of the world’s foremost historians on the region to Metro-Detroit to provide his historical expertise on the issue.

On Monday, May 13, 2024, please join us for a unique opportunity to hear from world renowned historian Ilan Pappé as he delves into the complex history of Gaza—past, present and future.

The conversation will be moderated by Dr. May Seikali, and cover the current state of occupied Palestine during this pivotal moment in history. The event will include a Q & A segment with the audience.

ABOUT ILAN PAPPE

Ilan Pappé is the bestselling author of The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine: A History of Modern Palestine and The Israel/Palestine Question. He has co-published several books with Noam Chomsky, including On Palestine and Gaza in Crisis: Reflections on the US-Israeli War Against the Palestinians; his most recent book is “The Biggest Prison on Earth.”

Ilan Pappé is a scholar and a pro-Palestinian political activist. Ilan Pappé (Hebrew: אילן פפה, pronounced [iˈlan paˈpe]; born 7 November 1954) is an Israeli historian, political scientist and former politician. He is a professor with the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, director of the university’s European Centre for Palestine Studies, and co-director of the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. Read more

In a 2004 interview, Pappé said. “The aim has always been, and it still remains, to have as much of Palestine as possible with as few Palestinians in it as possible.”[8] He blames the creation of Israel for the lack of peace in the Middle East, arguing that Zionism is more dangerous than Islamic militancy, and has called for an international boycott of Israeli academics. Read more
