Speaking of anniversaries, October 15th marks the 58th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party. One of the programs that the Black Panthers were most famous for was their free breakfast program which nourished thousands of children in the Sixties and Seventies. We’ll celebrate this great social service that started in Oakland and expanded to dozens of cities around the country. According to the Journal of African American Studies, a typical breakfast often included some combination of bacon, eggs, grits, hotcakes, toast, sausage, and a glass of juice or milk, and we’ll gourmet and vegetarianize it up some, and have a great meal.
