Drawing from over a decade of ethnographic fieldwork in Palestine, please join us for book talk with Dr. Lisa Bhungalia about Elastic Empire: Refashioning War through Aid in Palestine (Stanford 2023). Her book examines the ways in which US counterterrorism law intertwines with humanitarian and development aid, shaping the social, political, and economic landscape of the region. Her work offers insight into the topological workings of the US security state and its implications for imperial formations. Dr. Lisa Bhungalia is an assistant professor of geography at Kent State University whose research focuses on late-modern war, law, empire, and transnational linkages between the US and Southwest Asian and North African region.
