Al-Awda FL’s International Women’s Day Event is a night of commemorating Palestinian women in Palestine’s past and present. Join Al-Awda as we discuss the impact of Palestinian women in their rich history, as well as the struggles faced by them. We will also be joined with special commentary (via zoom) from our amazing guest speakers, Linda Sarsour and Laura Albast.
Shatha Hanaysha is a Palestinian journalist based out of Jenin, Palestine. Shatha was working alongside Shireen Abu Akleh the day she was murdered, and has since worked tirelessly to show people the truth using her journalism skills. Shatha is a hero and inspiration to all young Palestinian girls as she constantly works to strengthen the voices of the Palestinian people.
Rasha Mubarak is a Palestinian-American Muslim community activist, consultant, political strategist, and leader, who was named “10 People Making Orlando a Better Place to Be” and “2019 Florida Young Democrat of the Year”. Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in the heart of Central Florida, Rasha is a grassroots organizer and political advocate for national, statewide, and local political candidates and campaigns around civil rights, human rights, interfaith work, immigration rights, and Black and Brown liberation.
Laura Albast is a Palestinian photographer, journalist, and translator, as well as the Senior Editor of digital strategy and communications at Palestine Studies. Her articles have been published by The Washington Post, Arab American News, and other outlets. She has appeared on Al-Jazeera, WEAA, WMNF, and the Black Star Network.
