Dear AFMI community,
In the upcoming weeks, we will be showing films from around the Arab world that tell stories of occupation, mass atrocities, and the plight of refugees.
But also stories about the importance of home, belonging, connection, hope, courage, and resilience.
This year, Arab Women in the Arts returns for its 4th edition, opening in New York and San Francisco with NEZOUH, a film by the incredible Syrian filmmaker Soudade Kaadan. We will unveil more of the program in the next few days, in the meantime, you can already buy a ticket to opening night or a pass.
THE OLD OAK, featuring the on-screen debut of Ebla Mari, and directed by legendary filmmaker Ken Loach, opens today in New York and will show in theaters around the country.
Our friends at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco have kindly offered a discount to the AFMI community, just enter code LastLoach when you buy your ticket. THE OLD OAK opens in SF on April 19th.
On Saturday April 13th, we will co-present HOMELAND: IRAQ YEAR ZERO at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, CA with our new partners at The American Cinematheque.
And last, but first in our hearts, we are co-presenting the NY premiere of LYD- a powerful sci-fi documentary about a city that once connected Palestine to the world — what it once was, what it is now, and what it could have become.
Playing from April 26 to May 2 at DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema in NYC.
We hope you will join us.
