Erdogan: Turkey will not give up on Gaza
Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has said that his country has always stood beside the people of Gaza and provided them with assistance in the past, and that Turkey will continue to reach out to Palestinians in Gaza and will not abandon them in the future.
During an opening of a book fair in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said: “We always stood by our brothers in Gaza, which was burned and destroyed by Israel. Over the past year, we provided them with $76 million in aid for the reconstruction of Gaza.”
The Turkish president stressed that his country will never give up on Gaza, saying: “We provided Gaza with medical and educational aid, water and fuel as well as food aid, and we will continue to extend our hand to help them. Our aid to Gaza will reach a total of $200 million in 2017.”
Erdogan criticised countries and organisations that did not fulfil their obligations to the reconstruction of Gaza Strip, asking: “did anyone beside Turkey fulfil their promise to the reconstruction of Gaza?”
Meanwhile, Erdogan pointed out that while serving as the country’s prime minister for nearly 12 years before being elected president, he treated the country’s different ethnic groups “as equal Turks”.
