Two upcoming brunch events could make for an exciting weekend of eating in Detroit. Warda Patisserie will be kicking off the weekend with a North African brunch on Saturday, followed a New Orleans-style brunch-for-dinner on Sunday with pop-up and forthcoming West Village restaurant Gabriel Hall.
Pastry chef Warda Bouguettaya will be serving Arab African brunch dishes at her phenomenal pastry counter inside Trinosophes from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this coming Saturday, April 27. The menu includes Egyptian ful mudammes (a stew made from fava beans, tomatoes, herbs, and spices), Moroccan rghaif (flat bread filled with either mushrooms and carrots or lamb), olives, Tunisian mechwiya (grilled hot pepper salad), Algerian baghrir (yeasted semolina crepes), and more. The cost is $29.
Then, go ahead and sleep in on Sunday, April 28, when Gabriel Hall takes over Mudgie’s from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with an evening brunch. The a la carte menu features options like shrimp and crawfish etouffee omelets, bananas foster french toast, beef sausage po’boys, and grits and grillades with slow cooked chicken and red gravy. Customers should pre-order their items before 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26. The restaurant will also be serving cocktails to pair with the Creole meal and hosting Xavier Bonner & Company quartet.
While one could choose just a single brunch to try this weekend, might as well make it a doubleheader. Heck, go big and make it a tripleheader.
