Local leaders here in Michigan are taking a stand against Islamophobia.

They will be holding a press conference at the Charles H Wright Museum later this morning.

Metro Detroit has one of the largest Arab American populations in the country and community leaders say it’s time to take a stand against Islamophobia.

Organizers say today’s news conference comes after recent comments made by some presidential candidates. Comments like banning all Muslims from entering the U.S. and preventing certain Americans from holding public office based on religion.

Civil rights groups and community leaders are now coming together today to say there has been a growing number of violence, threats and fear against Muslims around the country.

Just last week, the leader of the Islamic House of Wisdom in Dearborn Heights allowed us into his mosque saying his followers are not terrorists.
