Chaldean American Ladies of Charity Expands Name to Reflect Services And the Community Served
Press release: Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC)
Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC) announced today that they are introducing an expanded name that better reflects the broader based services they offer, the community who funds them, and the 5,000 families the not for profit serves. The expanded name is United Community Family Services. A new logo accompanies the more descriptive name.
“We are very proud of the founders of our organization, and continue to have them as our underlying foundation. The United Community Family Services (UC Family Services) name better describes our focus on the services we provide to families in need throughout our tri-county community,” said Dr. Zina Salem, CEO. “Our programs give low income families not only the basic services they need to survive with dignity such as basic food, clothing, furniture, household items and emergency medical relief, but also educational tools that will empower them towards self-sufficiency” added Salem.
The not for profit was founded fifty five (55) years ago, helping families in need in Southeastern Michigan. Initially founded to help newly arrived immigrants and elderly refugees, the organization has been steadily expanding its reach to help other qualifying low income people. Classes range from health education, English as a Second Language (ESL), career development, and counseling parents on special needs children to financial empowerment and free citizenship preparation workshops.
“Our community based programs are funded primarily through our generous members and local donors, without whom we would not succeed,” stated Rita Foumia, Chair, UC Family Services. “And we could not provide our programs without the hundreds of volunteers who are instrumental in helping us run our weekly and monthly programs,” added Foumia.
