Michigan Media Watch (MMW) Mission statement: "Combating bias in Michigan's media by promoting accurate, factual and balanced coverage of the Middle East." George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them." The MMW group was started in April 2004 to affect the circumstances in which we live. Like our motto, "Reality, Not Rhetoric," we believe that educating fellow citizens about the realities on the ground can help bridge understanding between East and West. We help facilitate understanding by talking to journalists, writing letters to the editors, helping to promote positive Middle East events, and engaging our fellow Michigan community members in thought-provoking discussions. Michigan, after all, is home to a large and vibrant Middle East community. Therefore, it is pivotal in viewing our community through a truthful lens.
