Singer Bono paid tribute to the tragic Syrian boy, who was washed ashore after fleeing his country, during a U2 gig.

The musician changed the chorus of their hit song Pride (In the Name of Love) to highlight the deepening refugee crisis.

Instead, he sung: ‘One boy washed up on an empty beach.’

The shocking picture of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi lying face down in the sand sparked outrage and made headlines around the world.

Footage of refugees were shown on the screen during the gig at the Pala Alpitour in Turin on Friday night, as the band kicked off the European leg of their world tour.
