BDS activists plan protest against Israel playing in Lacrosse world championship
Pro-Palestinian BDS activists activists plan to protest Israel’s participation in this year’s under-19 Lacrosse world championship, being held in Edinburgh, Scotland this week, citing Israel’s alleged ‘ethnic cleansing’ of Palestinians.
The Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign has called on activists to attend and hold demonstrations in each of Israel’s FIL Rathbones Women’s 2015 U19 Lacrosse World Championship matches.
The Israeli team is expected to face off against Korea this Friday in its first match in the tournament.
In a statement, the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign called for Israel’s lacrosse team to be excluded from the championships games. A representative for the group, Angus Maclean, said: “For 67 years Israel has defied international law and Palestinians are calling on civil society and grassroots organizations to take a stand against ethnic cleansing and genocide.
“We will be present at each of the matches to protest and send a clear message that Israel’s involvement in this, and any, international sporting event is unacceptable.”
