Arab Cinema Center Announces Winners of Fourth Critics’ Awards for Arab Films

This is the first time in the history of Arab cinema, that 141 prominent Arab and international film critics from 57 countries have come together to be part of a jury committee.
The Arab Cinema Center (ACC) revealed the winners of the fourth edition of its Critics Awards for Arab Films during the Virtual Marché du Film. The awards are submitted based on the voting of a jury of 141 members from across 57 countries.
The award for Best Documentary went to Talking About Trees, directed by Suhaib Gasmelbari from Sudan. Director Elia Suleiman from Palestine snapped up the prize for Best Film with his entry, It Must Be Heaven. Best Actor went to Sami Bouajila from the Tunisian film A Son while Best Actress was bagged by Hend Sabry, who starred in Noura’s Dream, also a film from Tunisia. Best Screenplay went to Amjad Abu Alala and Yousef Ibrahim of You Will Die At Twenty from Sudan and Elia Suleiman won Best Director for his film It Must Be Heaven.
The first Critics’ Awards for Arab Films was held on the margins of the 70th Cannes Film Festival. This is the first time in the history of Arab cinema, that 141 prominent Arab and international film critics from 57 countries have come together to be part of a jury committee to judge Arab cinema.
The Arab Cinema Center has also announced that American film critic Deborah Young has been assigned the role of Manager of the Critics’ Awards for Arab Films.
