Arab Americans, Make Your Voice Heard in Local Elections This Month

While America waits with anticipation for the upcoming presidential election this November, it is important for voters to remember that August is also an election month.
Throughout August, 25 states and a few American territories will hold local and state elections to choose which assemblymen will serve for the next term. Electing for a wide array of positions, ranging from United States Senate seats to school board superintendent positions, Arab Americans must remember the importance of voting. Local elections are certainly not as exciting as the presidential run off, but real change in the community starts at the local level.
In many states that are holding elections this month, officials are worried that strife over the presidential race has distracted many voters from the current elections. In some states where people are voting to narrow down candidates for governor, such as Washington State, Democratic incumbent governor Jay Inslee reminds voters that if they want real change in their state, elections such as these are not to be ignored.
While the race for the presidency is important, its tendency to capture headlines can sometimes cause people to forget about issues in their local communities, leading to a disconnect between the people and their elected government.
All Arab Americans are urged to make their voices heard this month. Issues on spending tax dollars, improving education, maintaining infrastructure, and more are handled on the local and state levels. Help make your neighborhood a better place to live and vote in the local elections this month.
