Arab American Wins Contest to Display "Haiku" at G-20 Summit
All hail high priestess of haiku.
And the winner is Angele Ellis.
Her haiku will grace the marquee of the Harris Theater during the week of the G-20 summit. It reads:
“We harvest leaflets
blown like autumn leaves: our hopes
speak truth to power”
Pittsburgh Filmmakers sponsored a contest to come up with a haiku which will be seen by all of the world — if the cameras are pointed in the right direction. Roughly 150 entries were submitted and Ellis was the winner.
A writer and community activist, Ellis lives in Pittsburgh and is a published author and poet, former co-director of the Pittsburgh Peace Institute and onetime member of the River City Nonviolence Resistance Campaign.
