Speaking a combination of Arabic and English, board members of the Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon and volunteers handed out the first of 75 bags of olive oil, tea, lentils, rice and other goods on Saturday.

Board president Nadia Dahab said last week the group gave out 50 bags in the parking lot outside Al Amir Bakery on Southeast Division Street so this week they prepared 75 bags, totaling 1,300 pounds of food.

The group also used the giveaway to provide adult and child-size masks to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to share information about the U.S. Census, which aims to count every person living in the United States.

The Arab American Cultural Center plans more community relief food giveaways. Dahab suggests checking its Facebook page for updates. The food is provided to anyone who needs it — no questions asked.
