Arab America Foundation Prepares for National Arab American Heritage Month
posted on: Feb 24, 2021
During the month of April, the Arab America Foundation formally recognizes the achievements of Arab Americans through the celebration of National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM).
This year, Arab America Foundation will lead the celebration of NAAHM once again, but this time with more vigor and enthusiasm than ever before. We are mobilizing families, school districts, cultural institutions, city councils, and student organizations to join us in a nation-wide celebration of Arab American heritage.
The Arab America Foundation has formed a national advisory committee and twenty-four state teams of over two hundred fifty Arab Americans to approach governors, state legislatures, mayors, city councils, school board members, and other public officials to issue NAAHM proclamations and adopt our educator curriculum kit, which will be disseminated to school districts across the nation as part of the month-long celebration.
The Educator’s Curriculum Kit highlights the history of Arab migration to America, geographic understanding of the Arab world, Arab American diversity in faith and language, interesting customs and traditions, issues affecting our community, and our many achievements in business, politics, education, and more. You can request a curriculum kit to be sent to a school district or individual school by contacting Dr. Amal David.
We’re planning an ambitious program!
We are planning three signature events to commemorate the Arab heritage during National Arab American Heritage Month in April:
Week 1: Celebrating the Power of Educators Sunday, April 11, 2021, 4-5 pm ET on Zoom (followed by a networker)
Week 2: Celebrating Arab American Literature, Poetry, and Art Sunday, April 18, 2021, 4-5 pm ET on Zoom (followed by a networker)
Week 3: Celebrating the Achievements of Arab Americans Sunday, April 25, 2021, 4-5:00 pm ET on Zoom (followed by a networker)
In addition to our events, we are committed to gathering and promoting the community’s events and stories through Arab America’s website and social media platforms during the month of April.
Every week, we will feature cultural events taking place throughout the US on the events page, and share compelling success stories of Arab Americans on the blog page . Additionally, we have compiled a resource guide listing resources and content regarding the Arab and Arab American identity and culture.
We strongly urge individuals, Arab student organizations, churches, mosques, and clubs across the country to promote and celebrate the month through various events. Tell us about the heritage month event you’re hosting in April and we’ll include it on our national events registry.
Here’s a great idea: Record a one-minute quality video, stating the one aspect of our culture you’re proud of. Send it to info@arabameirca.com ; we’ll be sure to promote it on our social media in the month of April. Feel free to state your name and State.
Let’s work together to recognize Arab American triumphs, leadership, and hard work in our country. Help us as we prepare and execute plans for our special month. Again, if you need guidance, please contact Dr. Amal David.
Join our efforts, and help us to promote National Arab American Heritage Month in April
By starting at the grassroots level, we will place NAAHM at the forefront of American consciousness in no time, but we can’t do it alone. There are many ways you can join us in our month-long festivities, beginning with your financial contribution to our campaign . With your generosity, we will observe National Arab American Heritage Month through invaluable cultural and educational activities.
