Arab America Foundation Announces Speakers and Performers for Annual CONNECT Arab America: Empowerment Summit October 25-26, 2024

(WASHINGTON, D.C., August 28, 2024) The Arab America Foundation is excited to announce its speakers for the CONNECT Arab America: Empowerment Summit, which will be held on Friday, October 25, and Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Dearborn Community and Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, Michigan 48126. To date, over 25 speakers and performers have been confirmed, with more to be announced.

Warren David, president of Arab America and co-founder of the Arab America Foundation, emphasized the importance of this year’s program, stating, “In addition to engaging panels about the election and public service, we’re also spotlighting women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, young leadership and the media, alongside cultural performances that capture our rich Arab heritage. Building these connections is crucial—it fuels our professional journeys and social ties and empowers our voices to resonate within our community and beyond.”

This year’s summit is a unique opportunity to connect with a diverse community of like-minded individuals, visionary leaders, and influential speakers. We’ve chosen Dearborn as the location of our summit—a city that symbolizes the heart of Arab America.

The Arab America Foundation (AAF) is a non-profit (501c3) educational and cultural organization. Its mission is to promote Arab heritage, empower and educate others about Arab identity, connect Arab Americans, and build coalitions with diverse organizations across the U.S.

Meet the Speakers and Performers to Date; more to be announced; stay tuned):

Bassel Abdallah

Bassel M. Abdallah is the Ohio Team Leader of the Arab America Foundation. He resides in Westlake, Ohio, with his wife and three children. He holds a PhD in Law from the Lebanese University. He graduated from the Lebanese University • Filière Francophone de Droit with a Bachelor of Laws and was admitted to practice law in Lebanon. He furthered his legal education at Paris II Panthéon-Assas University in Paris, France, earning an LLM in Business Law. After immigrating to the United States from Lebanon, Abdallah developed a keen interest in immigration law. He attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated with honors, earning a Master of Laws in U.S. and Global Legal Studies. He is the founder and managing partner of Abdallah Immigration Law. He practices immigration law, is actively involved in numerous Arab American organizations, and serves on their boards.

Randa Adra

Randa Adra is a partner at Crowell & Moring LLP’s New York office, specializing in International Dispute Resolution and Litigation. She is renowned for handling complex, high-stakes disputes and provides strategic counsel to multinational organizations worldwide. Growing up in Beirut, Lebanon, Randa brings unique expertise in matters involving the Middle East and North Africa. She is an active leader at her firm, serving on the Diversity Council and Women’s Leadership Initiative and co-founding the MENA Affinity Group. Randa is also a co-founder and board member of ArabArb, supporting the arbitration community with ties to the Arab world. She has been recognized as one of the Arab America Foundation’s 40 Under 40 honorees.

Assma Ali

Assma Ali is the founding Immigration Attorney at the Law Offices of Ali & Associates, P.A. Ms. Ali has extensive experience working in the field of Immigration Law. She has handled cases nationwide, representing many several ranking government officials from around the world. Attorney Ali has spoken nationwide for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Federal Bar Association (FBA), and the Mississippi Bar, among other organizations and private events, including being selected to be the keynote speaker for graduations, scholarship galas, and fundraisers. She has also received several prestigious awards from organizations nationwide, including the 2024 Super Lawyers Mid-rising Award, the 2023 YLD Outstanding Young Lawyer Award, the 2022 Mississippi Bar Leadership Award, and was one of the recipients of the 2021 Arab American Foundation 30 under 30.

Debbie Almontaser

Dr. Debbie Almontaser is an internationally recognized educator, speaker, and expert in cross-cultural understanding. She is the Founder and CEO of Bridging Cultures Group, Inc. and the founding principal of the Khalil Gibran International Academy in Brooklyn, NY. With over 25 years of experience in the NYC Public School System, Dr. Almontaser has been a dedicated advocate for diversity, serving as a multicultural specialist and advisor. As the Board President of the Muslim Community Network, she frequently lectures and facilitates workshops on cultural diversity, conflict resolution, and interfaith coalition building. Her work has earned her accolades, making her a prominent figure in promoting cultural understanding and peace-building globally.

Stefan Ateek

Stefan Ateek is a Professor of Social Work employed at Collins College and formerly at University of Texas. He has more than 30 years’ experience developing and operating specialized programs in the of area of criminal justice. Ateek was born in Nazareth where he visits frequently and maintains numerous family and professional contacts. He is Arab America Foundation Team Texas Leader. In addition to serving on the NPI Board, Stefan is a Nazareth Hospital Ambassador in the US. He has numerous organizational involvements including Health Outreach to the Middle East, Arab American Friends of Nazareth and Mariam Foundation. He has received numerous awards related to his board and community involvements including the “Christ Like Award” from Health Outreach to the Middle East, the Trailblazer Award from the Arab America Foundation and a special recognition as “Advisor of Probation in Texas” from Texas senator, Mike Moncrief while acting Governor for a Day. He has obtained funding from foundations including Amon G. Carter, Simmon’s Family and Sid Richardson Foundations.

Nabih Ayad

Nabih H. Ayad, Esq., is the founder of Ayad Law, PLLC, with over 22 years of private practice experience in Downtown Detroit. A dedicated civil rights advocate, he is the founder and chairman of the Arab American Civil Rights League (ACRL). He has served on numerous influential boards, including the Detroit Wayne County Airport Authority and the ACLU Lawyers Committee. Ayad was appointed Michigan Civil Rights Commissioner and has been recognized with multiple awards, including the ADC National Advocate of the Year and NAACP Great Expectation Award. He earned his JD from Detroit College of Law at MSU and a B.S. in Accounting from Wayne State University.

Rania Batrice

Rania Batrice is a first-generation Palestinian American. She is a skilled political strategist and communications expert, is known for her dedication to progressive causes and her impactful work in various political campaigns. With a background in grassroots organizing and strategic communications, Rania has made significant contributions to several high-profile political and advocacy campaigns at the national and international levels. Her commitment to social justice issues and empowering underrepresented communities has been a cornerstone of her work for over two decades. Rania’s innovative approach to messaging and coalition building and her ability to connect with diverse audiences have earned her recognition and respect within the political and advocacy spheres. She continues to focus her efforts on driving positive change, both domestically and abroad. Rania’s passion for creating a more inclusive and equitable society is a guiding force in her impactful career.

Maya Berry

Maya Berry is the Executive Director of the Arab American Institute (AAI), a national civil rights advocacy organization focused on empowering the Arab American community. She previously established and led AAI’s first government relations department before serving as Legislative Director for House Minority Whip David Bonior. With expertise in public policy, Berry has expanded AAI’s work in combating hate crimes, protecting civil rights, and advocating for data equity, including creating a new Middle East and North Africa (MENA) category. She also co-chairs the Hate Crime Task Force at the Leadership Conference for Civil and Human Rights and serves on Public Citizen’s board. Berry, a long-time Democratic Party activist, has been involved in multiple Democratic National Conventions since 1992.

Rush Darwish

Rush Darwish is a dedicated community organizer with over 15 years of experience in humanitarian work, media, business, and civic engagement. He founded a Chamber of Commerce for the Middle Eastern-North African retail community and a Small Business Development Center to empower women and marginalized communities. He also launched the Refugee Life Foundation, a charity team supporting refugees globally and locally. Rush owns a media production company that creates impactful content for non-profits and civic leaders. He is a devoted husband to Aziza and father to their two sons, Amir and Adam.

Amal David

Dr. Amal Khalil David is the Director of Community Engagement at Arab America (www.arabamerica.com) and co-founder and board member of the Arab America Foundation, where she currently leads a grass-roots network of Arab heritage teams nationwide.  A Palestinian born in Nazareth, she earned her Ph.D. in Communication with an emphasis on multicultural education. She has over 35 years of experience in bilingual education as an administrator in Detroit Public Schools and as an adjunct professor at the college level. Additionally, she was a producer and a host of several radio programs in Detroit. In Washington DC, she created and developed the largest grass-roots Arab American women’s initiative in the U.S. Her participation as a community leader and advocate portrays a positive image of Arab American women.

Warren David

Warren David is the president of Arab America (www.arabamerica.com), a national media organization founded to promote an accurate image of the Arab American community and identity through several digital media platforms, which include an online website, Arab America E-News, and several social media platforms. He is a co-founder of the Arab America Foundation. This non-profit promotes the Arab heritage and empowers Arab Americans in the U.S. He is the former national president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Washington, D.C., and was executive producer of the nationally acclaimed public television series “Arab American Stories.” A third-generation Arab American of Syrian and Lebanese heritage, he has invested his time and personal resources to document and tell the story of the Arab American experience.

Layla Elabed

Layla Elabed is a 1st generation Palestinian and American community organizer who has been organizing in Dearborn and Detroit for over 13 years. She was the campaign manager for Listen 2 MI, a current co-chair of the Uncommitted National Movement, and a regional organizer with We The People Michigan. She is the daughter of Palestinian immigrants, twelve of her fourteen brothers and sisters, and a mother of 3. Layla organizes grassroots electoral politics, energy justice and environmental justice issues, voter rights, and movements that amplify justice and liberation of Black and brown communities

Alabass Farhat

State Representative Alabas Farhat proudly represents Michigan’s 3rd House District, encompassing most of Dearborn, all of Melvindale, and parts of Detroit. With a deep commitment to public service, Farhat advocates passionately for his constituents and all Michiganders. He emphasizes the importance of working closely with his residents. Farhat’s extensive public health and policy background informs his legislative efforts, focusing on healthcare, economic development, public safety, and infrastructure. He works diligently across party lines to advance policies that benefit Michigan’s communities and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Abderrahim Foukara

Abderrahim Foukara is the Washington DC Bureau Chief for Al Jazeera Satellite Channel and host of Min Washington (From Washington), one of the Arab world’s most influential shows. The program offers an in-depth analysis of US affairs and their impact on North Africa and the Middle East. A veteran journalist with deep insight into US and Middle Eastern politics, Foukara has been a trusted voice during pivotal events like the Arab Spring, providing clarity and context. He has appeared as a commentator on major platforms such as Face the Nation, CNN, and NPR. Time Magazine highlighted him in 2011 for his role in covering the region’s dramatic changes. Originally from Morocco, Foukara previously worked as a correspondent for the BBC World Service and Public Radio International’s The World, covering significant events like the war in Afghanistan and the deaths of key Middle Eastern leaders.

Nabeleh Ghareeb

Nabeleh Kakish Ghareeb is a business consultant and project manager for multiple non-profit agencies in Detroit. In her role, she leads and manages projects in a turnkey process, from strategic thoughts to creating state-of-the-art programs for non-profit agencies. Nabeleh served in various leadership roles in non-profit organizations and Higher education institutions. In her most recent roles as Chief Strategy and Administrative Officer at the Children Center of Wayne County and Associate Vice president of Business Operations at Wayne State University. In 2021, Nabeleh was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs. Nabeleh volunteers with several organizations, such as the Arab America Foundation, where she co-coordinates a project dear to her heart, Recognizing Arab American Rising Leaders. Nabeleh is active with the Arab American Women Business Council, where she served two terms as President of the Council and is still involved with the Grant Committee. Nabeleh completed her undergraduate studies in business management at Wayne State University, her master’s degree in education administration, and her postgraduate studies at the University of Toledo. She is married to George Ghareeb.

Marwa Ghumrawi

Marwa J. Ghumrawi is a Lebanese-American leader recognized for her work bridging U.S.-Arab relations and fostering Arab American civic engagement. In 2023, she received the prestigious Arab America Foundation’s National 40 Under 40 Rising Leaders Award. Marwa currently serves as the Director of Operations and Communications at the Washington Center for Yemeni Studies and holds a board position with the Arab Americans of Cleveland Young Professionals Network.

Mahbuba Hammad

Dr. Mahbuba Hammad is a researcher and educator at the intersection of educational leadership, language pedagogy, and public health. She is quadrilingual and proud of her Arab-Latino roots. In 2023, she spearheaded legislation in California to permanently recognize April as Arab American Heritage Month, leading to its historic recognition by the California State Legislature. Dr. Hammad serves in many capacities as an instructor and director of multiple projects and national/international initiatives in public educational and nonprofit organizations. She has extensive experience in grant development, instruction, teacher training, assessment, and program administration and has worked with students in K-16 and graduate programs. She was named by the International Literacy Association (2019) as one of 30 Under 30 literacy leaders and visionaries creating positive change in the global literacy landscape. She was also honored (2019) by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes as one of 30 Under 30 individuals who exemplify dedication, innovation, and service in the 47th district in the Inland Empire. She was recently named one of 40 Under 40 Arab American Leaders by the Arab America Foundation.

Abdullah Hammoud

Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud has passionately advocated for his hometown of Dearborn for over a decade. Born and raised in Dearborn to working-class immigrant parents, Hammoud is the city’s seventh mayor and is dedicated to ensuring that all residents have the opportunity to thrive. A product of Dearborn Public Schools, he holds master’s degrees in business administration and public health and a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Michigan. Before becoming mayor, Hammoud served as Dearborn’s State Representative in the Michigan House, where he championed initiatives to protect air quality, enhance public health, and improve education and economic development. Since being elected mayor in November 2021, he has made historic investments in public parks, prioritized public health, advanced economic development, and innovated government services. Beyond his role as mayor, Hammoud is a devoted husband and father, committed to raising his family in the community he serves.

Bilal Hammoud

Bilal Hammoud serves as the executive director of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Tejara, an incubator/accelerator for 1st and 2nd generation immigrant entrepreneurs. Most recently, Hammoud was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to represent business on the State of Michigan’s Workforce Development Commission. Before this, he was the public engagement director in the executive office of the Michigan Department of State, project manager for the City of Cheboygan, and Chair of Michigan’s Language Access Task Force. Hammoud holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, a Bachelor of Science in Neuropsychology from Wayne State University, and a Master’s in Public Administration. He also holds a certificate in Political Leadership from Michigan State University and certificates in Strategy Execution and Leadership Management from Harvard Business School. Hammoud serves on multiple boards, including the Wayne State University Alumni Board, the United Humanitarian Foundation, Don’t Be Shai, the Islamic House of Wisdom, APIA Vote MI, and the Dearborn Heights Libraries Board. He also acts as the advisor for the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights Model United Nations Club.

Hama Hinnawi

Hama Hinnawi is a humanitarian, feminist artist, speaker, and Fashion designer. Her remarkable journey led her from a career as a medical business consultant to the establishment of her fashion brand, HAMA, in 2011 to raise awareness about her heritage. Through her innovative designs and creative expressions, Hinnawi has become a powerful advocate for the marginalized, embodying the voice of the voiceless. Her unique blend of fashion and art swiftly gained international , attracting extensive media coverage and capturing the attention of royalty and celebrities alike.

Eynas Jarrar

Eynas Jarrar is a Patient Coordinator at LifeStance Health in Concord, New Hampshire, and Co-Team Leader for the Arab America Foundation New England Region. Jarrar identifies herself as a proud Arab American of Palestinian origin, passionate about sharing her culture and heritage with the community. She has been involved with New Hampshire Arab American Heritage Month Proclamations and event planning to educate and discuss the importance of the Arab identity in the United States to help break barriers and stigmas about Arab Americans. She serves as the Treasurer for Palestine Children Relief Fund – Boston Chapter, a non-profit organization that works on providing medical and humanitarian work to children in the Middle East. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Southern New Hampshire University. She is an MPH student at the University of Bridgeport, where her studies focus on global health policy. In addition, she has worked on research for mental health issues in refugees and immigrants arriving to the States and in implementing disease prevention programs in refugee camps.

Elias Khalil

An educator and entrepreneur with 30 years of experience, Elias Khalil is the Director of Entrepreneurship and Education for the American Arab Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he is building out Tejara Innovation Hub, an entrepreneurial incubator and small business accelerator geared towards Arab Americans and first and second-generation immigrants. Khalil prides himself on his mission-driven philosophy of equity and inclusion. He is also the founder and co-owner of La Feria Spanish Tapas, a thriving restaurant and wine bar in the heart of Midtown Detroit. He is passionate about his heritage and volunteers as the co-coordinator of the Arab American Foundation’s National Rising Leaders Contest for 40 under 40, 30 under 30, and 20 under 20.

Rami Khouri

Rami G. Khouri is a Palestinian-American academic and journalist whose family resides in Beirut, Amman, and Nazareth. During his 50-year career in journalism, he was Managing Editor of the Jordan Times and the Daily Star (Beirut) newspapers. He contributed reporting and opinion pieces from the Middle East to the Financial Times, NPR, BBC radio, and other outlets. He founded and managed the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs(IFI) at the American University of Beirut. He has been a Harvard Nieman Journalism Fellow, a senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, and a Fellow of the Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs in Arab East Jerusalem. He was also a visiting scholar at Villanova, Oklahoma, Mt Holyoke, Syracuse, and Tufts universities. He is currently a distinguished fellow at IFI, a senior fellow at the Arab Center Washington, DC, a regular contributor to Aljazeera online, and a Just World Education board member. Alma Korkor

Alma Khoury Korkor is an activist and has been a board member of several Arab-American organizations for the past ten years. Korkor graduated from Damascus University in Syria, taught Arabic, and translated two books from English to Arabic. In Ohio, she was an entrepreneur and hosted an Arab radio program. She served as a president of the Stark County International Festival and national auxiliary president of NAAMA, and she co-founded chapters of ADC, AAA, and SAWA in Ohio. Presently, she serves as the Board President of the National Arab American Women’s Association, NAAWA, and a board member of Togetherness US. She also co-founded Masrah/Theater Al-Arabi in Cleveland, Ohio, and serves as a Cleveland public theater board member.

Omar Kurdi

Omar Kurdi is Arab American and is from Cleveland, Ohio. He is the CEO of Friends for Life Rehabilitation Services, an agency that services adults with developmental disabilities. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in international relations. Outside of work, he is a writer with two published poetry collections and a performing artist. He is a founding member of Masrah Cleveland Al-Arabi, a theatre company within Cleveland Public Theatre and the first Arabic theatre company in Ohio. He is the Co-Founder and President of Arab Americans of Cleveland – Young Professionals Network, a non-profit organization that champions Arab American professionals, students, and businesses. He won multiple awards, such as The notable Immigrant Award in 2020 and 40 Under 40 in 2021 from Cleveland Crain’s Business Magazine. 40 Under 40 from the Arab America Foundation in 2020. 25 under 35 Movers and Shakers Award in Northeast Ohio from the Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club in 2023.

Micheline Maalouf

Micheline Maalouf is an Arab-American Therapist and a worldwide mental health educator, advocate, and speaker. She is a licensed mental health counselor turned accidental mental health influencer and content creator. Micheline speaks and teaches about the topics she finds important and vital. Maalouf started creating content to help increase access to mental health information and resources during the pandemic and she quickly realized how important this work was. Her content centers around topics we can all relate to and take something from to improve our well-being, connection, and empathy with the world. In Maalouf’s mental health practice, she specializes in the treatment of Anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety, OCD, and panic as well as trauma disorders, more specifically, childhood and relational trauma disorders. She loves and combines various empirically proven treatment modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). She pays close attention to neurobiology and nervous system states to help individuals understand what is happening within their bodies and help them regulate and heal. Fun facts: Micheline speaks 4.25 languages, has lived in 3 different countries, and has visited many more. In Maalouf’s spare time, you can find her binge-watching reality TV or finding a new restaurant to eat at. 

Fayrouz Saad

Fayrouz Saad was appointed Assistant Secretary for the Office of Partnership and Engagement at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in February 2024. In this role, she advises the Secretary on the impact of the Department’s policies and actions on state, local, tribal, and territorial officials, as well as non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and the academic community. A Michigan native with nearly 20 years of experience, Fayrouz has held multiple leadership roles in the Biden-Harris Administration, including Director of Public Engagement for the CHIPs Program Office at the Department of Commerce and Director of Public Engagement at USAID. She has also worked on economic integration programs for immigrant and refugee communities in Michigan, serving as Detroit’s first Director of Immigration Affairs and later as Executive Director of Global Michigan. Fayrouz’s career includes prior service in the Obama Administration, focusing on emergency response and community resilience.

Wesam Shahed

Wesam Shahed is a first-generation Palestinian-American from Chicago, Illinois. He serves as a Policy Advisor – Assistant State’s Attorney at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO), the second-largest prosecutor’s office in the US. Wesam has not only been recognized as one of the most promising young talents in the CCSAO but also internationally recognized in the Arab American Foundation’s “30 Under 30.” Wesam recently gave a TEDx Talk on criminal justice reform titled “Does Justice Always Require a Conviction?” Wesam’s involvement ranges far beyond his day job, as he is the Finance Director for the first Muslim and Palestinian American elected by the Democratic Party into Illinois’s House Legislature in 2023. Wesam holds executive leadership positions for the ACLU Illinois, the Arab Professional Business Association (APBA), the Arab American Bar Association, the Muslim Bar Association, and the AB Korkor Mental Health Foundation.

Sarah Shendy

Sarah Shendy, a police lieutenant with over 16 years of law enforcement experience, made history as the first Arab American Muslim female police sergeant in Ohio. She served as a Law Enforcement Training Officer with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, where she designed a pioneering course to educate officers on interacting with the Middle Eastern community. Appointed by Governor DeWine in 2020, Shendy became the inaugural Director of the Office of Law Enforcement Recruitment, the first of its kind in the nation. A passionate advocate for mental health, she co-chaired the Attorney General’s Task Force on Criminal Justice and Mental Health and is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor. Recognized for her leadership, Shendy received the IACP 40 Under 40 Award in 2022 and the Arab America Foundation 40 Under 40 Award in 2024. Her work has been featured in Kent State University’s Alumni Success series and multiple national publications.

Reda Taleb

Reda A. Taleb, a native Detroiter and the proud daughter of Lebanese Muslim immigrants is a strategic leader with a deep commitment to social justice. Her transformative leadership is evident in her 15 years of nonprofit experience, which spans civic, legal, entrepreneurial, and social justice movements across the United States. As the Founder/CEO of Dream Catcher Innovations™, Taleb serves a national clientele with a range of services aimed at advancing social justice and equity. She is an incarcerating advocate, certified trauma-informed healing justice facilitator, children’s book author, and spoken word poet. She is a proximate and cross-sector changemaker rooted in grassroots servant advocacy. She reflects on the communities she serves and connects with others across identities and industries. Taleb centers equity and builds trust through her commitment to collective impact to achieve collective liberation in the country we aspire to be. These qualities ground her body of work and the legacy she aspires to create for herself, her family, and her community.

Assad Turfe

Assad I. Turfe has dedicated his career to addressing economic and social disparities, with a strong commitment to positively impacting lives. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy from Concordia University, is a graduate of the Young American Leaders Program at Harvard Business School, and is currently enrolled in the Executive Law Enforcement Leadership program at Eastern Michigan University. Beginning as an entry-level deputy in the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in 2002, Assad quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the youngest lieutenants in the office’s history. In 2015, Assad transitioned to the Wayne County Executive’s Office, where he played a key role in moving the county from the brink of bankruptcy to consistent credit rating improvements. As Chief of Staff to Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans, Assad oversees executive personnel appointments, ensures diversity across the county’s 43 communities, and fosters crucial relationships. His leadership was pivotal during the COVID-19 pandemic, connecting local leaders to serve Wayne County residents effectively.

Maysoon Zayid

Maysoon Zayid is a comedian, writer, and disability advocate. She is a Princeton Fellow and co-founder/co-executive producer of the New York Arab American Comedy Festival. Her TED talk, “I Got 99 Problems…Palsy is Just One,” was among the most popular discussions in 2014. Maysoon has sold out top New York City clubs and has toured extensively at home and abroad. She has appeared alongside Adam Sandler in You Don’t Mess With The Zohan and is a recurring character on General Hospital. James Zogby

James Zogby co-founded the Arab American Institute (AAI) in 1985, a Washington, D.C.-based organization that serves as the political and policy research arm of the Arab American community and continues to lead it as president. As Director of Zogby Research Services, he has conducted groundbreaking surveys across the Middle East, offering insights into the region’s public opinion. President Obama appointed Dr. Zogby to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom in 2013. He served two terms, including as Vice Chair. A prominent voice on Middle East affairs, he frequently appears in national and international media and has written a weekly column since 1992, published in 12 countries. His books, including Arab Voices and The Tumultuous Decade, have been widely acclaimed for their analysis of Middle Eastern public opinion. Active in U.S. politics, Dr. Zogby has advised several presidential campaigns and served in leadership roles within the Democratic National Committee for over three decades.

Abulsalam Alnajjar

Abdulsalam Alnajjar was born in Homs, Syria, where he began his musical studies with Nawal Wassouf, the sister of famed singing icon George Wassouf. In addition to his private studies, Abdulsalam started to participate in school competitions and programs where he continued to hone his craft, ultimately starting a traditional vocal ensemble that performs traditional and religious repertoire. Having left Syria in 2011, Abdulsalam settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he studied Industrial and Operating Engineering at the University of Michigan, and he currently works as an engineer at GMAbdulsalam participated in many events with the National Arab Orchestra all over the US. In 2020, he left for Egypt, where he spent a year studying and performing Arab music.

Zak Baalbaki

Zak Baalbaki, born in Kuwait City in 1977, is a talented musician who began his musical journey at the age of 13, performing in his first talent show. After moving to the U.S. in 1989, he continued his education and graduated from Fordson High School in 1995. His love for music led him to form the first Arabic band at Fordson, laying the foundation for a thriving Arabic music culture at the school. Baalbaki’s proficiency in both Arabic and English has contributed to his success as a performer. His debut album, “Habibi Rjaali,” was released in 2008, followed by singles like “Enta El Malik” and “Mishtaglak.” His latest release, “Maàlem,” was released in 2023. Zak’s dedication to his craft is evident in every performance, where he pours his heart into delivering unforgettable experiences for his audiences. With a bright future ahead, Zak Baalbaki is a rising star in Arab music.

Mahmoud Beydoun

Mahmoud Beydoun, born in Beirut, Lebanon, has been a passionate singer for nearly 40 years. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1987, he has performed across almost 45 states, as well as in Canada and South America. He has released three professional songs of his composition and performed at numerous Arab American festivals. His talent has also graced international events, including those hosted by Saint Jude Hospital in Washington, DC. Mahmoud studied at the National Lebanese Conservatory of Music, where he honed his skills for four years. He has written a song about his village, Bint Jbeil, and performed on Tarab Night with Marwan Khoury in Lebanon. Known as the “King” of the stage in Dearborn, Mahmoud’s love for singing began in his childhood and has since become his lifelong passion.

Nibal Malshi

Nibal Malshi is an extraordinary Palestinian artist born in the vibrant city of Haifa. Since age five, Nibal has enchanted audiences worldwide, drawing inspiration from revered Arab artists and gracing prestigious stages across her homeland, Europe, and the USA, including the renowned Institute de Monte Arab in Paris. A proud Academy of Music and Dance graduate in Jerusalem, Nibal’s artistry knows no bounds. From captivating dance workshops in Ramallah to inspiring collaborations in Germany to numerous concert performances in the U.S., she spreads harmony and unity through her music. Najee Mondalek

Najee Mondalek is the creative force behind the beloved character “Im Hussein,” a Middle Eastern matriarch he portrays on stage. As a producer, director, writer, and actor, he has captivated audiences across the U.S. and Canada with his Arabic plays since 1989, bringing humor and cultural insight to the stage. Born in Lebanon, Mondalek grew up amidst the turmoil of war, finding solace and expression in humor. He moved to the U.S. in 1985, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Wayne State University and a Master’s in Virtual Reality, 3D Animation, and Visualization from the Academy of Art University. His talent is finding humor in everyday situations, turning life’s little moments into sidesplitting comedy. His dedication to his craft and the laughter of his audiences continue to drive his passion for storytelling and theater.

George Ziadeh

George Ziadeh was born and raised in Birzeit, Palestine, and pursued music from a young age. In 1986, he moved to the United States, where he studied ‘oud with Simon Shaheen and classical singing and voice with Youssef Kassab, with whom he has toured extensively nationwide. He has performed and lectured with such ensembles and institutions as the University of Chicago’s Middle East Music Ensemble with Issa Boulos, the University of Colorado (Boulder), Alwan for the Arts, the United Nations (invited by Kofi Annan), and annually at the Columbia University Department of Ethnomusicology. In 2008, Ziadeh was a featured solo and ensemble performer in the “Brooklyn Maqam” Festival of Arab Music; from 1995 to 1997, he taught at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Ramallah and at Birzeit University. George is considered an authority in the maqam and Arab classical repertoire.
