Arab America Foundation 2024 Recap: Empowering Arab Americans Across the Nation
In 2024, the Arab America Foundation (AAF) continued its mission to promote Arab heritage, educate Americans, and connect and unite communities through impactful initiatives and events.
From recognizing rising leaders to celebrating National Arab American Heritage Month and hosting the CONNECT Arab America: Empowerment Summit, AAF’s efforts have left an indelible mark on the Arab American community. Here’s a look back at the highlights of this remarkable year.
March: 40 Under 40 Awards
In March, AAF proudly announced the recipients of its prestigious 40 Under 40 initiative, celebrating forty Arab Americans who have excelled in their respective fields. These individuals represented diverse professions, including education, law, business, medicine, arts, and media, while also demonstrating a commitment to their heritage and communities. The selection process involved six judges reviewing applications and identifying candidates under 40 who exemplify leadership, professional achievement, and cultural pride.
The honorees’ accomplishments and contributions testify to the strength and talent within the Arab American community. This recognition highlights their success and inspires others to strive for excellence while staying connected to their roots.
April: National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM)
April 2024 marked a historic milestone for National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM), with recognition reaching new heights. Initially launched by the Arab America Foundation in 2017 as a grassroots initiative, NAAHM has grown into a national movement celebrated by companies, nonprofits, schools, universities, and government entities across the United States. This year, the Arab America Foundation secured over 150 proclamations from state governors, local officials, and school districts, affirming the importance of Arab American contributions.
Despite challenges, including rising anti-Arab sentiment linked to global events, Arab Americans came together to celebrate their heritage and advocate for justice. Community gatherings across the country highlighted the resilience and cultural pride of Arab Americans. Among the notable achievements was integrating Arab American history and culture into educational institutions and public displays, such as the SMART bus wrap in Michigan and a dedicated Google Doodle celebrating Lebanese American artist and poet Etel Adnan.
These efforts demonstrated the power of collective action and the importance of fostering awareness of Arab American heritage. NAAHM 2024 was a resounding success, uniting communities and solidifying the Arab America Foundation’s role as a leader in cultural advocacy.
June: 30 Under 30 Awards
In June, AAF recognized thirty exceptional Arab Americans under 30 through its 30 Under 30 awards. These young professionals, representing fields such as entrepreneurship, engineering, medicine, arts, and advocacy, embody the innovation and drive of their generation.
The honorees’ achievements reflect the community’s dynamism and potential, inspiring others to pursue their aspirations while staying rooted in their heritage. This initiative also highlights the importance of mentorship and collaboration in fostering the next wave of leaders within the Arab American community.
July: 20 Under 20 Awards
In July, AAF announced the 20 Under 20 awardees for 2023, honoring twenty outstanding young Arab Americans aged 16 to 20. These rising stars have achieved academic excellence, community service, and extracurricular activities, showcasing leadership and a commitment to preserving Arab heritage.
The rigorous selection process involved a panel of five judges who evaluated the applications anonymously to ensure fairness. The awardees, representing the future of the Arab American community, have already made significant contributions to society through their dedication and innovation. Their stories underscore the potential of the next generation to shape a brighter future for the Arab American community.
October: CONNECT Arab America: Empowerment Summit
The highlight of AAF’s 2024 calendar was the CONNECT Arab America: Empowerment Summit, held on October 25-26 in Dearborn, Michigan. The event welcomed over 480 guests from 26 states and brought together influential speakers, performers, and community leaders to engage in meaningful discussions and celebrate Arab heritage.
The summit featured seven impactful panels covering diverse topics, including:
