Bishop Antoun Khouri, Spiritual Leader of Antiochian Orthodox Faithful, Passes
Bishop Antoun Khouri, former Auxillary Bishop of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese, passed away today according to a statement issued by Metropolitan Joseph, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of all North America.
Joseph issued the following statement from Shwayya, Lebanon, where he is attending the Holy Synod meetings, “with profound sadness, yet hope in the Resurrection, I announce the passing into eternal life of my beloved brother, Bishop Antoun. Words cannot begin to describe our debt of gratitude to His Grace nor our sense of loss at his falling asleep.”
Antoun, who retired in July as Bishop of Miami and the Southeast, was consecrated in 1983 by the late Metropolitan Philip Saliba at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Brooklyn, where he served as pastor.
He was born Antoun Yssa Khouri on January 17, 1931, in Damascus, Syria. At the age of fourteen, he entered Minor Seminary at Balamand Monastery in Lebanon, where he met and befriended Philip Saliba, the future Metropolitan of North America. He received his diploma in theology from the Balamand Seminary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ‘Bishop ANTOUN Memorial Fund’ earmarked for and payable to “Camp Saint Thekla” (Camp of Diocese of Miami and the Southeast). All donations will be collected at the Cathedral on October 10-11.
